Poshmark Tip of the Week: Followers Myth

I get asked by newbies all the time on if it’s too late to join Poshmark and “make the big bucks” like all the OG people on the app. Like as if how many followers effect how much money you actually make on the app. But contrary to popular belief, despite the fact that the number tracker on our followers is a quite impressive resume bullet point. This number does not in fact guarantee more sales. BUM BUM BUUUUUUUUM!!!

Yes I know, it’s been long proven that the activity that you put onto the app will infact give you more sales rather than however many followers you have. My husband used to say all the time when we worked together doing real estate auction events, “it’s the property that draws the crowd, not the company”. Meaning that the actual product brings the shoppers to my closet, the photos, the quality, and the price (at times). Not the fact that I have thousands of followers.

So don’t feel bad baby Posher if you’re just starting out! I have a bunch of newbies that start even in this month, selling a butt load of stuff because they have bright white photos, they’re of good quality, and people want to buy them, and they have only a few followers!

If you’re a newbie and you want people to check out your closet, please put the name of your closet down below! FREE ADVERTISING!! Lol

  1. Hi, Ediza!
You’re hysterical and your tips are great! I still need to work on my photos. Getting better though. Sourcing merchandise is my biggest obstacle. I don’t thrift and I’m not sure about wholesale. Haven’t had luck with the few pieces I ordered. Any other suggestions?

My closet link is below. @gm2017

  2. Hi! Great article! Iโ€™m a newbie my closet is @michrose89. Can you please take a look? Everything I am selling for now was in my personal closet, but I want to eventually co-sign and start a boutique. I think I need brighter photos, any suggestions?? Thanks!!

  3. @kcrewfive is mine!! I will check out the other closets here too my friend and daughters are @purpeesemporium and @brobstshotokan ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Great advices! Great tips and very encouraging words for newbie like me. Looking forward to all your travel sharing. Drop by my closet https://poshmark.com/closet/ukibana if you have a chance. Really appreciate the advice on inventory Excel file. I’m trying to adapt that to a consignment scenario. Thanks again!

  5. It’s awesome to have support from OG’s like yourself. As you say, it can become discouraging when you don’t see the returns you expected. I spent the entire weekend re-photographing my items to get a cleaner, more uniform look. Also re-priced many as I went along.
    Many Thanks, Judi

  6. HI -you’re awesome!

My closet name on Poshmark is

Any help you can give with exposure would be greatly appreciated!! Hugs, much love and ALL the BEST to YOU!! Venus

  7. I agree that followers are not the most important thing… to a point. And that point can be reached by all new poshers! My sales did not pick up until I followed this advice: have at least 100 listings and at least 10,000 followers. At that point, I definitely started to see an increase in sales but it didn’t really pick up until I obtained posh ambassador status (which gives you so much more exposure!) and at 100+ listings and 10k+ followers, you’re probably either already there or very close. I just hit my 50 listings sold mark! Love, @maizypop

  8. I created my posh account in 2013, but just started using my account about 2 weeks ago, I have made several sales since then. But its still hard to keep the momentum going. I am tryng to build my following and get Posh ambassador to see if that would help to boost my sales. Ahhhh only 8 slaes and a love note away. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Come by and visit ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I love your blog! I started just about a year ago and have grown so much since then, my username is @lex_boutique

I was thinking of making a new posh page with a different name, and was worried about starting over but I guess it would just be a fresh start and like you said itโ€™s not always all about the followers!

  10. Thanks for your awesome blog! I just started selling a few months ago and am soaking up ALL the info! @bumbolina

  11. I stumbled upon your posh closet yesterday and was so glad to find direction to your blog & videos. Im sure youโ€™re insight will definitely help me improve my sales and that would be amazing ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you for taking time to help new posters like me! Iโ€™m sure everyone has different posh goals but for me Poshmark has been a way to help clear ill fitting items since I have lost over 30 lbs. I completed a minimalist challenge about 2 months ago and I donโ€™t feel like all the money Iโ€™ve spent on clothing over the years was a waste๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™ve had a number of successful sales and happy customers and I think with your tips I will continue to grow๐Ÿ‘ Much thanks and Posh love๐Ÿ’‹ @121lisamarie

  12. Great blog- New to Posh- Long time established nicolesmilliondollarcloset.com Please check out my posh closet pixy89120 and advise if there is something better I should be doing. Thanks

  13. I have been wondering this!! Seems like the first few weeks i was on there i was making more sale than when i started actually trying to get more followers. Where your focus goes, your energy flows i suppose :p Thanks!! @juliology

  14. Thank you for so many great tips! Just stumbled across your blog – love it ๐Ÿ™‚ I joined Poshmark in August 2018 but wish I would’ve joined years ago!! My Poshmark account is @amyg0711. I know I have some stale items that are just poorly photographed so I’ll be working on those. Any other comments or tips you have for me would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

  15. Unfortunately, I’m not so new (like a toddler posher?). I’m starting out with little money and mostly things from my closet, so its a bit slow going. I ended up getting discouraged and took about a 6 month break while checking to see if I made a sale about once every week or two. I’m back at it though, and blogs like yours are helping me realize that the more I share mine and everyone’s listings the more I will sell! My boyfriend on the other hand has probably seen my face not buried in the phone or laptop a handful of times in the past week. Whoops! Now my goal is to prove this hasn’t all been for nothing! I also used your inventory spreadsheet and set in all up today (with my 99 listings!), which I think helped both of us feel like can actually be a good business!

    Check it out @konalove13

  16. @spot2003 very helpful!! I just joined and I still learning I have a lot of items listed and trying not to get discouraged. I haven’t sold anything in weeks. But, I am not a giving up. I have a set my goals and I want to prove I can do this.. I am going to set my spreadsheet up this weekend and start taking my business my the horn … we all can be a PoshBoss. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks you for the articles and for being an inspiration !!! Please check out my closet advise is always welcome.
