Hey everyone! This season I wanted to take you all along with me on my crusade to get to Spain. Ryan’s 30th Birthday is coming up and I wanted to take a family vacation somewhere where we’ve never been but also somewhere where he can have a bit of fun. He mentioned to me that he wanted to go watch a MotoGP race and if you’ve never seen or heard of it, I don’t blame you, it’s not big here is the US. But since he’s a championship winner, I thought it would be nice to watch one live.
So I thought I’d take you along with me on this journey so you could get an idea of how I plan my trips, to see what I do, and how I get there. My mentality is different when I book trips because I usually don’t take ‘no’ for an answer and I figure another way out to get the trip that I want. This will give you an idea of how you can plan your trips in the future and to give you an idea of how I think things through.
There are a few main pieces of criteria that I must have when we travel and this is totally a ME thing but this would not be a successful trip unless:
- We’re in business class
- We stay at a nice hotel
- We also pay as little as possible for this.
These demands of mine are a lot trickier to obtain seeing as though we have an infant. When they said kids were expensive, they weren’t kidding. To take an infant with you on any flight internationally will cost you another ticket if you’re paying with miles or 10% of the retail cost. That’s insane on both ends! When we went to Scotland I dished out an extra 115,000 miles because we weren’t going to spend $1,000 on an infant it wasn’t financially sound for us at the time. So this is a major hurdle that I have to work out. Not to mention finding a flight that has 3 award tickets available going to Barcelona.
The hotel situation has to be one of the easier obstacles because we have points in each major hotel brand enough for a weeks worth I believe. But I’ll go into booking and how I was able to get the room and how I was able to find the right one for the lowest cost….later on.
I am a travel hacker through and through. And I LOVE getting points and miles in my everyday spend, which allows me and my family to travel at least twice a year. This is a comfortable balance for us in our busy schedules, especially as new parents. This is especially helpful in keeping the cost down when we travelled previously. This really helps us get the best trip we can get, without breaking the bank.
I’ll be posting again once I start making moves so you can see how to get there if you’re planning a trip to Spain as well. This is just an introduction to the entire chain I’m planning on posting. Don’t worry, if you’re reading this, that means I have the other segments already written out so there’s an end to it. I promise! It just means you’re gonna have to stay tuned to see what the next segment will be!
